(Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Seaport BeerFest returns as Atlantic Canada’s largest craft beer and cider festival. One of the top beer festivals nationally, this much-anticipated event celebrates all things beer, cider and food on the Halifax Waterfront from Friday, August 11th to Saturday, August 12th.

The 11th anniversary edition will showcase over 300 craft beers, premium imports and ciders, representing nearly every Canadian province and over 15 different countries. The Cunard Centre with its 375’ of waterfront patio, will host some of the greatest craft beers and ciders around, nearly two-thirds of which are not normally available at NSLC stores.

“We’re setting the stage for attendees to sample, discover and learn how great craft beer and cider can taste,” said Bruce Mansour, festival co-founder. “There's never been more excitement in this industry and we're proud to display it with an East Coast spin again this summer!”

“The greatest growth and enthusiasm in alcoholic beverages continues to be from local breweries and cider-makers. Atlantic Canadian operations open monthly as demand surges,” said Brian Titus, festival co-founder. “More than ever, local brews will be showcased at the festival, with dozens of East Coast producers showing just how great local can be.”

A new pavilion this year, presented by DME of Charlottetown, will be TAP LOCAL! Volunteers from the Brewnosers HomeBrew Club and Ladies Beer League Appreciation Club will pour an ever-changing selection of local draught beers from a dozen or more rotating taps. “Craft breweries struggle to keep up in the heat of summer, but the TAP LOCAL! concept will let us bring in limited release and specialty brews from even the smallest and newest producers,” added Titus.

In the spirit of Canada 150, the rest of Canada will also be well represented with pavilions returning from Quebec, Ontario and the West. Popular pavilions from Ireland and New England will return plus a wide range of specialty and premium imports from around the world.

A unique feature of Halifax Seaport BeerFest is its strong focus on cider and gluten-free beers. Growing at more than double the rate of craft beer, cider is being discovered in a big way and a full 10% of the offerings at festival will be local and international ciders.

Local beer-friendly cuisine is always a festival highlight. This year, the festival welcomes fare from newcomers East of Grafton Tavern along with Halifax Press and Eat Beer! (both food trucks) as well as returning favourite, Bramoso Gourmet Pizzeria. All food items are priced at $6 or less with gluten-free options available.

Like every year, attendees have three sessions to choose from for unlimited samples, a souvenir mug and a guaranteed sociable time!

Sessions are:

  • Friday evening from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday afternoon from 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday evening from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m

There will also be an expanded VIP option for each session. A limited number of festival-goers will receive a sample souvenir glass and access to the festival floor a full hour early (starting at 6 p.m., 1.p.m. & 6.p.m. respectively). Attendees can socialize, interact with brewers and enjoy access to limited and specialty brews in addition to all the regular offerings.
